The contest that has been going on to post every month (NaBloPoMo) is nearly over and I can't say Adios fast enough. It isn't that I haven't enjoyed writing everyday and letting everyone in on the dish but it has been tiresome and dare I say it...BORING. I never realized how boring I am. In general people tend to think I am funny, but people who are pretty close to me said that I just don't come across that way when I write on here...maybe it's because some days I just needed to get it done...who knows.

Today I have nothing to say, work is...WORK so I'll end for now by saying only two more days of this contest and I for one and quite relieved ;)

CLOUDBREAKING by Paul Fuhr

I've talked about a couple of books that I have been reading and one of those was a book called Cloudbreaking by Paul Fuhr. Paul is a local author (Columbus, Ohio) and a friend of mine who works with me here at the Hill. I've just recently finished his book and felt this overwhelming need to tell you all that you should buy it, read it, and talk about it. It's a thriller, it's a mystery, it's an adventure, and it's remarkably written.

Paul has taken a mundane (something we don't generally think/talk/care much about) topic like weather phenomena and made it electrifying. When I read books, watch TV, listen to NPR...I never, ever react...with this book I did. I even got called out a couple of times for gasping...it's that good...REALLY. I rarely recommend books to people but today I am going to do it...like I said...buy it, read it, and talk about it.

So...here's another picture from Thanksgiving...this is Amelia's neice M...isn't she cute! We had a really great time together on turkey day...let's see...we took this picture, I taught her how to play darts and then we kicked her mom's ass in a game, we played cards together and hung out...she is a SWEET little girl.

So this was the cake halfway through dessert, I suppose it was a hit. The frosting was really good, the cake a bit too heavy for my taste, and the HOMEMADE pecan praline...to die for.

This is how the Rachael Ray cake turned out...the frosting was a bit soupy but what the hell...I tried right? The cake was supposed to be four layers but the recipe said "cut with a serrated knife" and because I don't know what a serrated knife is...I decided two layers was good enough ;)

GIVING THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!

This has been a great year...every other blogger is certainly making a list of what they are thankful for so I shall continue the tradition :)

First, I want to say that THIS HAS BEEN A KICK ASS YEAR! So many positive things have happened for me, for Amelia, for our friends (especially Jen and Mandy), and for our families. We could not have asked for more.

So, the list
1. I have made so many new friends ( you know who you are) I am thinking of you all today ;)
2. I got to see Blair this year, which is quite a rare treat. B-I love you and Happy Thansgiving

Like I said this has been a great year and although that list isn't all inclusive I am thankful for it all and so much more.

Pumpkin Cake with Whipped Cream and Pecan Praline

According to the meteorologists here in C-town it was supposed to snow like a mother yesterday, but did it you ask...hell NO!

It didn't snow at all where I was. In fact I wore jeans and a long sleeve tee-shirt all day and didn't get cold once...what is that about? Ohio has the weirdest weather, right now it is sunny with a blue sky dappled with white fluffy clouds when it should look like this...

Christmas Countdown

So today I am feeling whooped...literally hands tied behind back, blindfolded, red assed and whooped. The Hill has worn me out this week, maybe it was the move, maybe it was the hundreds of e-mails I seem to receive in one day changing or adding something to my already precarious pile 'o papers. Rainy Days

Today is a rainy day here in Columbus...and I wish I were at home cuddling up with our zoo and Amelia too. From my cube I can see straight out the window and it looks like it has gotten much colder too. I never wear a winter coat which DRIVES Amelia CRAZY! Today I am cold, I should have listened and busted it out and worn it and just given in...*sniffle*sniffle*

Next week when I am posting a complaint against Mother Nature because I am sick...you can all say...."WE TOLD YOU SO!"

BOOK CLUBS!

Kristine and I have decided to start a book club and I am PUMPED about it. First of all I am an avid reader. I'm kind of like Rory on Gilmore Girls, I always have a book with me and books have overtaken my nightstand. Currently I am reading two books, Cloudbreaking by an up and coming author right here in Columbus, Paul Fuhr...GET IT at http://www.therainfarm.com this is a really original and thought provoking book. Paul will also be the guest at our first book club meeting which I think is an excellent way to kick things off.

The honest answer to that question is that I didn't even really realize it was an SUV...I was looking to buy something a bit bigger for loads of personal reasons, (one of those being that we have four pets and we need that space desperately) I am not going to go into the other reasons. I was actually looking to buy something sort of Jeepy and I genuinely thought that because this car wasn't as big as say a Hummer or Cadillac Escalade or all of the other gigantic SUV's that take up their lane and mine that it wasn't considered an SUV. That's the truth.

On a lighter note...I am feeling much better about it today. A friend of mine (the voice of reason) who is very conscious of others and the environment said it was good that I deserved it, so...I'm am feeling ok with it for now.

Insecurity is...

A BITCH! So typically I try not to be too heavy on this blog...but today I'm just not feeling it. As you all know I purchased a new car yesterday and am feeling some major Catholic guilt, even though I'm a non-practicing Southern Baptist :) The problem is that I am feeling really insecure about buying it, not the payments, not the upkeep, nothing like that. I am feeling bad that 1. I bought an SUV (I always said I never would) 2. It's really bad for the environment and even though I'm not all that environmentally conscious...I'd like to do my part. I really wanted to buy a hybrid but there is no way in hell I could afford one. 3. The real reason that I am feeling so so soooooooooooooooooo shitty today is that I don't want people to think that I think I am better than them or for that matter to think that I am not good enough. Yesterday I felt bad whenever I drove by a bus stop and people were sitting there. Today I drove by and there were people sitting in the rain waiting for the bus and I felt even worse. I talked to Amelia about how I was feeling this morning and she said that I have worked my ass off so I deserve a nice new to me (used) car. She pointed out that I 1. stayed in a job that I hated for 4 1/2 years 2. I had a really great new job that I love even though I bitch about it on here 3. That I was the very first Thompson to graduate from college and 4. That I have had a job since I was 14, I am now 31. Though these are all really good points, I am still feeling like crap.

What the hell is going on with me? Sorry to bring everyone down :)

That new car smell....

As most of you know, Amelia got a job in Springfield about 45 minutes from our house and in honor of her getting her first attorney gig I am buying a new car. Now I know that doesn't seem like it is in honor of Amelia getting a job but it is 'cuz she won't have to drive her crazy old car soooo far and hope that she doesn't break down on the highway. So....I will be picking the car up in about three hours.

As I said awhile back I work for a publisher as an assistant editor. I waited and prayed and offered up my first born for this job and I want to give it back. Well some days I want to give it back. It's quite frustrating when the powers that be can't make up their minds...I mean it's either boldface and italicized or it is not...once the fog has lifted and they have decided the next week it all changes anyway so what's the point. As I sit amongst the stacks of books and papers I find myself wanting to spill something on them, this is probably not good. I think I need a vacation :(
